Martha Jabour OAM Named 2025 NSW Local Hero

The Board of the Homicide Victims’ Support Group (Aust) Ltd (HVSGAL) is immensely proud to celebrate Martha Jabour OAM and her recognition in the Australian of the Year Awards as the 2025 NSW Local Hero.

This prestigious accolade reflects Martha’s unwavering dedication, compassion, and extraordinary contribution to supporting families and communities impacted by homicide. As the long-serving Executive Director and CEO of HVSGAL, Martha has tirelessly advocated for victims of crime and their loved ones, ensuring they have access to the resources, guidance, and emotional support they so desperately need during their darkest moments.

Since establishing the Homicide Victims’ Support Group in 1993 alongside the parents of Anita Cobby and Ebony Simpson, Martha’s commitment has transformed the landscape of victim support in Australia.

Her vision and leadership have been instrumental in establishing Grace’s Place, the world-first residential trauma recovery centre for children and young people affected by homicide.

Through her efforts and advocacy, countless lives have been changed, and the importance of prioritising victims’ needs has been brought to the forefront of public consciousness.

This recognition as the 2025 NSW Local Hero acknowledges not only Martha’s remarkable personal achievements. It is a moment of immense pride for HVSGAL, Grace’s Place, and the broader community.
